Senior Mechanical Member of Technical Staff (Sr. MTS, Mechanical Engineering)
Mattson Technology is seeking a Senior Mechanical Member of Technical Staff (MTS) to join our Platforms Engineering Team. In this role, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for the mechanical architecture, detailed design execution, and lifecycle support of core platform subsystems used across multiple product lines. You will drive robust, scalable designs that meet demanding semiconductor manufacturing requirements for precision, reliability, cleanliness, uptime, and serviceability.
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring deep mechanical expertise, strong system-level thinking, and effective cross-functional collaboration with electrical, software, manufacturing, supply chain, service, and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute novel mechanical designs from concept through release, including:
- 3D solid modeling and design development
- 2D drawings and documentation
- Bills of material (BOM)
- Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Test specifications, functional specifications, and product specifications
- Manage communications and expectations with internal stakeholders as well as external customers and vendors to ensure successful delivery of project objectives.
- Use and maintain accurate project documentation and configurations using tools such as SAP, SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER (Creo), and common office software applications.
- Provide hands-on engineering support in the lab and manufacturing as needed to enable installation, integration, and testing of parts and assemblies delivered to customer systems.
- Solve complex engineering problems using sound judgment and analytical methods, including tolerance stack-up analysis, heat transfer analysis, stress analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and system-level mechanical integration.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical design and engineering fundamentals with proven ability to deliver robust designs.
- Good understanding of vacuum fundamentals and automation/mechatronics components such as robotics, motors, and actuators.
- Hands-on skills are essential, with the ability to troubleshoot hardware, assemblies, and integration issues in lab and manufacturing environments.
- Strong skills in change management, problem solving, and clear technical communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior design experience with semiconductor processing equipment is preferred but not required.
