Description:

Position Summary:

Provides direct supervision to a group of children in a remote learning program and days out program. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

YMCA Usage - Facility usage is free for all employees. Immediate family members may use the YMCA at a discounted monthly price. Immediate family members are as follows: spouse, domestic partner, dependent children and other dependents living within the same household.

Program Fees-Except for certain exceptions, program fees will be reduced by 25% for all employees and their immediate family. * While not working, an employee of the Y can use the child watch service for free up to a 2 hour daily limit. While working, child watch is free and unlimited.

Essential Functions:


  • Develops and plans program activities.
  • Ensures all supplies are available and makes supply order list for Senior Program Director, submitting the list promptly to facilitate timely ordering.
  • Prepares daily supplies for program staff and maintains cleanliness and organization of program spaces.
  • Leads program staff and holds them accountable for the rules and expectations.
  • Assists in leading staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintains consistent communication amongst the team about day to day happenings and plans.
  • Establishes positive communication with students, guardians, staff, school administration, and program director.
  • Assists staff with stressful or unusual situations. Supports staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties for the betterment of the program as needed or directed.

Requirements:

Qualifications:


1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.

2. Experience working in a child development setting or related activity (specifically 5-12 year olds).

3. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

4. Strong written and oral communication skills

5. Strong leadership and organizational skills

6. Creativity and patience

7. Requirements within 30 days of hire include: CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; Sexual Harassment Awareness training, DCFS Mandated Abuse Reporter, Gateway Education hours, DCFS fingerprinting. If working in Mattoon, will also need Mattoon Police Department fingerprinting within 30 days.

8. Completion of all required safety trainings/renewals.

Physical Demands:

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.

Auditory and visual ability to respond to critical incidents.

Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.

Occasional push/pull/carry/lift up to 25 lbs.

Ability to respond to emergency situations.
