What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatic Director position at Mattoon Area Family YMCA?
Position Summary:
Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA aquatic and safety programs.
Essential Functions:
1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs aquatic personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and approves staff timecards. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
3. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
4. Assists with proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
5. Schedules and conducts the following trainings: life guard, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR. Assists with development of facility wide safety trainings.
6. Creates pool activity schedule, including swim lessons, water fitness classes, swim team practices and meets.
7. Develops and monitors department and program budgets to meet fiscal objectives and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
8. Administrator of Swim Team Program and supervises Swim Team Coaches.
9. Oversees inventory and ordering of safety supplies (i.e. first aid supplies)
10. Prepares monthly activity report and program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
11. Works with Marketing Director to market programs and distribute information as needed.
12. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events such as swim meets and May Merriment event.
13. Serves as member of Senior Staff and other assigned committees.
14. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
2. One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.
3. Requirements within 30 days of hire include: CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; Sexual Harassment Awareness training, DCFS Mandated Abuse Reporter.
4. Completion of American Red Cross Life Guard Instructor or equivalent within 90 days of hire.
5. Certified Pool Operator training within 90 days of hire.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, climb ladders, walk, shovel snow, plow snow, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
The work is performed both indoors and out, and may require travel to various locations. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
