What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Barber | Career Opportunity (Employee or 1099) position at Matt's on Mendon?
This Could Be the Last Barbershop You Ever Work In.
Most barbers spend their careers looking for something better.
A better shop.
Better clients.
Better opportunities.
More freedom.
More respect.
I understand that because I've lived it.
I've been cutting hair since I was fourteen years old. Over the years, I've learned that the right barbershop isn't defined by the number of chairs it has or how busy it looks. It's defined by the people inside it, the standards they uphold, and the experience they create for every client who walks through the door.
That's why I built Matt's on Mendon. Why Barbers Choose Matt's on Mendon
For more than two decades, I've dedicated my life to this profession. Every improvement we've made—from renovating the shop to investing in marketing, technology, and education—has been driven by one goal: creating a place where exceptional barbers can build exceptional careers.
I'm not looking for someone to simply fill an open chair.
I'm looking for someone who wants to help build the future of Matt's on Mendon.
Not to become the biggest barbershop in Rhode Island.
To become one of the best.
More Than a Chair. More Than a Paycheck.
At Matt's on Mendon, we believe every client deserves more than "just a haircut."
They deserve to feel welcomed.
Listened to.
Respected.
Confident when they leave.
We believe barbering is still a craft.
One built on trust, consistency, and relationships that often last for years.
If that's how you see this profession, you'll probably feel at home here.
Our Philosophy
Cuts. Character. Community.
Those three words guide every decision we make.
Cuts because craftsmanship matters.
Every haircut reflects your reputation and ours.
Character because skill opens the door, but integrity builds a career.
Professionalism, humility, accountability, and kindness never go out of style.
Community because this business has never been just about hair.
It's about relationships.
Conversations.
Families.
Watching kids grow up and eventually bringing in their own children.
Helping someone look their best before a wedding, an interview, a graduation, or one of life's difficult moments.
Those moments matter.
So do the people who create them.
Imagine Walking Into Work Every Day Knowing...
- You're supported by strong online booking and consistent client traffic.
- Your shop reflects the same level of professionalism you expect from yourself.
- Your back-bar products, laundry, utilities, and professional environment are already taken care of.
- You're surrounded by people who genuinely care about doing things the right way.
- You have the opportunity to continue learning, growing, and building a career—not just filling appointments.
Your job is simple.
Deliver exceptional service.
Build lasting relationships.
Take pride in your craft.
We'll take care of the rest.
Who Thrives Here
The people who succeed here aren't necessarily the loudest or the flashiest.
They're the ones who...
Take pride in every haircut.
Continue learning long after barber school.
Show up prepared.
Treat every client with respect.
Communicate well.
Care about the little details.
Want to build something they're proud to be part of.
If you're simply looking for another chair, there are plenty available.
