The CockroachDB Database Engineer will be a hands-on Engineer responsible for designing, building, and operationalizing CockroachDB as an enterprise Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) on Linux platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and enforce engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices
Build automation frameworks using Ansible, shell scripting, and infrastructure-as-code principles to enable scalable, repeatable deployments
Design and implement self-service provisioning capabilities for application teams
Ensure high availability, performance tuning, monitoring, failover, and disaster recovery capabilities
Define and implement security, compliance, and governance controls aligned with enterprise policies
Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and escalation point for CockroachDB-related issues
Continuously improve platform reliability, efficiency, and developer experience
Primary skills: CockroachDB DBA experiance, Anisble Playbook, Shell script, Distributed DB knowledge
Strong hands-on experience with CockroachDB architecture and administration
Deep understanding of distributed database systems (replication, consistency, consensus models)
Expertise in automation using Ansible playbooks
Strong shell scripting (Bash/Korn Shell) for automation and operational tooling
Expertise in using AI Tools like Github Copilot or any other AI tools to write the code
Experience with multi-region deployment architectures and high availability design
Database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning
8 years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments
Strong experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
Experience in monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
Solid understanding of backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
Experience implementing security controls, encryption, RBAC, and compliance standards
Excellent collaboration and stakeholder communication skills
Familiarity with Terraform or similar IaC tools
Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline integration for database provisioning
Experience in financial services or regulated environments
