Mathews Law is a boutique estate planning firm that is in the process of rolling out elder law, special needs planning and estate administration. We serve clients throughout Virginia and Maryland. We pride ourselves on delivering thoughtful, compassionate, and efficient service to every client.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Estate Planning & Elder Law Paralegal to join our growing team. This is a part-time position with the potential to grow into full-time as our estate administration and special needs planning departments expand.
This is a hybrid role—some work can be done from home, but periodic in-office days in Vienna, VA are required.
Key Responsibilities
- Review (and sometimes draft) estate planning documents (wills, POAs, trusts—including SNTs, MAPTs, RLTs, and ancillary documents).
- Assist with Medicaid planning.
- Support special needs planning, including document prep and coordination with funding advisors.
- Handle probate and estate administration tasks.
- Manage client communication with professionalism and empathy.
- Assist with estate planning lifecycle.
- Handle additional tasks as assigned.
- Support process improvement and assist with firm workflows.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in estate planning or elder law required.
- Experience with drafting trusts, SNTs, and Medicaid-related documents strongly preferred.
- Probate/estate administration experience in Virginia preferred, but experience in any state is helpful.
- Strong writing skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with clients.
- Comfortable with technology (Lawmatics, Adobe, Microsoft applications, Decision Vault, drafting software) or able to learn quickly.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently in a small-firm environment.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Initially, the hours will be less (during training and as we rollout new services), but as our clients grow, the work will grow as well. There will be an opportunity to add hours within a few months.

Compensation
- Hourly rate: $25–$35, depending on experience.
