General Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Engineering is fully responsible for overseeing all engineering functions at Mathews Brothers including product development and design, testing and quality assurance, incorporation of Lean methodologies, workflow development and research and development. This role will collaborate closely with key leaders in production, purchasing, supply chain and sales and oversee a team of three to four engineers. The successful Director of Engineering will be a motivated self-starter that will define specific goals that they will hold themselves and their team accountable to achieving.

Essential Job Functions
- Manage engineering initiatives
- NFRC certifications (National Fenestration Rating Council)
- Air, water, structural testing – AAMA_WDMA_CSA_101-IS2-A440 – NAFS (North American Fenestration Standards)
- Both simulation and physical methods (physical tests done by R&D Technician)
- Maintaining product and property drawings (2D & 3D Design) – within all databases, included but not limited to, Engineering servers, Inventor Vault, Website EDML,
- Maintain and update operational floor layouts
- Maintaining and update document databases
- ECNs, PKCNs, SOPs, QCs,
- first article inspections
- Technical troubleshooting
- Quality assurance
- Non-conforming material inspections
- Provide technical support to internal customers
- CSI specification maintenance
- Manage research & development (R&D) initiatives
- New product development/design
- Creating engineering drawings for R&D projects
- Creating engineering reports for R&D projects
- Finding solutions for service issues
- Performing hardware tests on products – AAMA Standards Tests
- Track R&D Costs for financial team reporting
- Maintain test wall data, reports, and records
- Manage Lean initiatives.
- Workflow development
- Process flow chart/spaghetti diagrams
- Time studies
- Events – Kaizen and Kanban
- Creating new and “leaning out” current SOPs
- Work with teams at each site to develop a “Lean” culture and improve safety, ergonomics, quality, and quantity.
- Other duties as assigned
Manage a team of three to four engineers.
Skills/Experience/Training Required
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar education and/or experience in a related field
- Four years of experience in a leadership role
- Four years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor or similar software
- Experience using 3D printing equipment
- CNC milling and G-code experience
- Knowledge in AAMA Standards (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) [FGIA (Fenestration & Glazing Industry Alliance)]
- Proven success in project management
- Thermal modeling experience
- Knowledge of ASTM Standards for test processing and procedures
- Knowledge of IECC, IRC
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to lead a team to achieve specific goals and KPIs
