Program Officer, Professional Development (Mathematics & Computer Science)

Math for America
York, NY Part Time
POSTED ON 3/28/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/23/2026

Math for America (MƒA) seeks an experienced mathematics educator, preferably with expertise or knowledge in computer science education, to join our Professional Development (PD) team as a Program Officer (PO). This role blends strategic thinking with hands-on execution. This Program Officer’s role is to shape MƒA’s mathematics and computer science programming by designing, curating, and managing high-quality professional learning experiences for experienced teachers.

POs collaborate closely with colleagues across departments, external facilitators, and MƒA teachers to ensure programming is mission-aligned, intellectually rigorous, responsive to teacher needs, and tracks emerging education trends, such as curricular shifts and AI education tools. This role requires strong relationship-building skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. POs also support the fellowship admissions process.

If you are a seasoned mathematics educator with experience in computer science, value teacher expertise, thrive in collaborative environments, and bring both creativity and organization to your work, we invite you to apply.

This is a hybrid position. POs are generally in-person Tuesday-Thursday and support evening programming (5:30–7:30 p.m.) one to two evenings per week during the school year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the PD team to plan, edit, and execute semester-long course catalogs.
  • Contribute to strategic decisions about course themes, facilitators, and emerging focus areas.
  • Identify and partner with teachers and external facilitators; support course design, reflection, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate logistics for courses and events.
  • Plan and occasionally facilitate professional development workshops.
  • Lead ongoing community contributions and initiatives in collaboration with teachers, including occasional planning and/or facilitation of workshops.
  • Use spreadsheets, Salesforce reports, and survey data to monitor participation, analyze feedback, and inform continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with MƒA teachers.
  • Serve as a responsive point of contact for facilitators and fellows.
  • Participate in fellowship admissions by reviewing applications and conducting interviews, and support broader community engagement efforts.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, communicative, and accountable team culture.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience teaching mathematics, preferably with experience in computer science
  • Experience developing and facilitating professional development with and alongside experienced teachers
  • Graduate degree in education or a STEM-related field
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines and follow through on details in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with data and digital tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Deep commitment to equity in mathematics and computer science education

  • Paid lunch when working in the office
  • Premium medical and dental plan options
  • 4-to-1 retirement match (up to 8%)
