Position Summary
The Early Head Start Health Assistant will work collaboratively with the Director of Health and Safety to ensure that health services lead to positive outcomes for program participants and are in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards and State and Local Health guidelines. The Health Assistant will be evaluated on a combination of skills, dispositions, and behaviors, some of which are related to the specific service area of this position and others that represent general expectations of all Maternity Care Coalition employees.
Core Functional Responsibilities
- Completes new enrollment health intake questionnaires and nutrition assessments in ChildPlus for all children and prenatal clients
- Assist with the completion of all 45-day and 90-day health screenings, including using hearing and vision machines for internal screenings on children
- Understand child health standards and related health policies to inform the Director of Health and Safety of the health status of children in center-based care
- Complete medication administration documentation for South Philadelphia center-based children and assist in obtaining medical care plans for children from healthcare providers
- Complete Health and Safety audits and checks at all MCC EHS sites and childcare partner sites monthly and as needed, and report findings to the Director of Health and Safety
- Maintain Early Head Start incident report documentation for enrolled center-based children at MCC EHS sites and childcare partner sites
- Monitor health and safety supplies for all EHS sites
- Support direct-service staff, managers, and partner site employees with evidence-based health information, handouts, and resources to distribute to enrolled families
- Assist with data entry using the ChildPlus system and obtain health-related documentation for ChildPlus Files
- Support with the planning and execution of health-related program events and meetings
- Assist the Director of Health and Safety with coordinating and tracking pre-service, in-service, and ongoing staff training
- Maintain current ServSafe Management Level certification and assist in EHS nutrition services

Maternity Care Coalition operates as a hybrid organization. The assigned work arrangement for this position may include a combination of remote and onsite work and will be determined based on operational needs, role responsibilities, and performance. Work arrangement expectations may be modified over time to meet organizational or programmatic requirements. Staff working remotely are responsible for maintaining a safe and appropriate workspace.
- Ability to engage in extended periods of sitting, computer work, and sustained concentration to complete financial analysis, reporting, and related tasks.
- Ability to occasionally bend, reach, lift, carry, push, or pull training materials or equipment, generally not exceeding 30 pounds.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence and the ability to successfully pass a motor vehicle record check, where driving is an essential function of the role.
- Ability to travel occasionally to attend conferences, seminars, and professional meetings.
- Ability to work non‑traditional hours on an occasional basis based on operational needs.
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of required post‑offer pre‑employment background clearances, as well as any additional post‑hire background, compliance, or programmatic clearances required by the organization, funders, or applicable regulations.
- This role supports compliance for regulated funding streams, including Early Head Start, through timely financial reporting, audit readiness, and escalation of material risks to executive leadership.
Experience, Education, and Licensure
Experience:
Six months of experience in data entry, detailed record keeping, and excellent communication in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to receive feedback, follow directions, and work collaboratively
Healthcare experience working with at-risk populations or children-Preferred
Education:
Minimum High School Diploma or GED
Healthcare certification or training (CNA, MA, Doula)-Preferred
Licensure:
No licensure required
