What are the responsibilities and job description for the Firmware Engineer position at MATERIAL?
Material is building the world’s first HYBRID3D™ battery manufacturing platform, and we’re hiring a deeply skilled Firmware / Computer Engineer to build out and integrate our control hardware, firmware, and software systems for the HYBRID3D™ manufacturing platform.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the architecture, selection, and development of embedded control hardware, firmware, and software systems for the HYBRID3D™ advanced manufacturing platform
- Develop high-reliability firmware for real-time motion control, process sequencing, sensor integration, and system orchestration
- Design, implement, and optimize custom slicer software capable of translating complex 3D designs into precise, machine-ready manufacturing instructions
- Drive integration of control hardware, firmware, and software components across mechatronic subsystems, actuators, and sensors
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, materials, and systems engineering teams to integrate, troubleshoot, and continuously improve the platform
- Own verification, testing, debugging, and validation workflows for the complete controls stack, firmware stability, and software functionality
- Shape the long-term controls architecture, firmware strategy, and software roadmap as the HYBRID3D™ platform evolves and scales
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
- Hands-on experience with embedded systems development, firmware programming, and hardware-software integration
- Strong proficiency in real-time software development for complex mechatronic or automation systems
- A systems-level mindset with the ability to operate effectively across hardware, firmware, and application software domains
- Demonstrated ability to deliver robust, reliable engineering solutions in fast-paced technical environments
Nice to Have
- Experience developing software for additive manufacturing, CNC machines, manufacturing automation, or other robotics applications
- Experience with 3D printers control systems electronics, firmware, and software
- Experience with 3D printer slicers
- Experience with laser control systems
This position is full-time onsite at our office in Miami, Florida.
