Overview
Material Inspection Technology, Inc. (MIT, Inc.) is seeking an experienced NDE Level II Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Examiner with an active API QUTE-PA credential (Qualification of Ultrasonic Testing Examiners – Phased Array). This role supports inspections where high-quality UT data is required for integrity decisions and code compliance. The API QUTE-PA performance demonstration qualification (PDQ) assesses practical skills using manually applied phased array methods to detect, size, and characterize flaws and features in carbon steel welds. In addition to PAUT, the candidate is required to meet the training and certification requirements of ASNT SNT-TC-1A and ASNT-9712 for MT, PT, and VT NDE Level II certification.

Duties

  • Perform Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) examinations in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, and client specifications.
  • Set up equipment and perform calibrations/verification checks; select probes, wedges, and scan plans appropriate to the inspection scope.
  • Collect UT data and evaluate indications for detectability and characterization consistent with project acceptance criteria and reporting requirements.
  • Document equipment, transducers, calibration/setup, and results in clear, traceable inspection reports suitable for QA/QC records.
  • Communicate examination results to project stakeholders (QC, engineering, client representatives) and support resolution of nonconformances.
  • Maintain data integrity and ensure work is performed safely and professionally in industrial environments.
  • Follow company safety policies and all site-specific requirements (including refinery/plant rules when applicable).

Experience

  • Active API QUTE-PA credential (API Ultrasonic Testing Examiners program) or ability to obtain API QUTE-PA certification.
  • Demonstrated field experience performing PAUT on welds and/or fabricated components.
  • Ability to write procedures, interpret drawings and inspection requirements, and to produce accurate, timely, audit-ready reports.
  • Strong understanding of UT fundamentals, phased array concepts, and practical scanning techniques.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to local job sites in the greater Houston area.
  • Prior experience working in field or site-based environments performing non-destructive testing on critical infrastructure or equipment is highly desirable. Join us to be part of a team dedicated to excellence in quality assurance through cutting-edge ultrasonic testing methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional Certifications in at least 3 methods - NDT methods (MT/PT/UT/RT/VT).
  • Experience working under common industry codes/standards (AWS, ASME, API, ASTM) and customer specifications.
  • Experience in refineries, petrochemical plants, fabrication shops, or construction/industrial QA programs.
  • Prior experience with performance demonstration or projects requiring recorded UT data deliverables.

Credential Note
