Role Description
This is an on-site contract and/or full-time role for a Nondestructive Examination (NDE) Level II Technician / Special Inspector based in Houston, Texas. The position involves performing visual inspection and nondestructive testing, including Ultrasonic Testing (UT – Straight Beam, Shear Wave, and Phased Array), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and approved project documents.
The technician will perform inspections in compliance with International Building Code (IBC) Chapter 17 Special Inspection requirements, including verification that materials, workmanship, and installation conform to approved construction documents, applicable codes, referenced standards, and project specifications. Duties include performing and documenting special inspections as required by the Statement of Special Inspections, maintaining inspection logs, identifying and reporting nonconforming work, and coordinating inspection activities with the Engineer of Record, contractors, and project stakeholders as required.
Inspections will be conducted in accordance with, but not limited to, API, ASME, ASTM, AWS, AISC, and customer-specific procedures, as well as jurisdictional requirements enforced by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). The technician will examine components for defects, discontinuities, and corrosion in demanding industrial and construction environments, including structural steel, weldments, and fabricated components.
The role requires the preparation of accurate, detailed, and timely inspection reports suitable for quality assurance, project records, and regulatory compliance, including reports submitted in support of IBC Chapter 17 special inspection documentation. The technician may also support inspection activities in refineries, industrial facilities, and construction sites, while adhering to company safety policies, project-specific requirements, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Proficiency and Level II Certification in MT, PT, UT (Straight Beam, Shear Wave, and Phased Array), and AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). Documentary evidence of NDE Classroom Training and On-The-Job Training hours signed by an NDE Level II or III shall be provided for consideration of employment.
- The ideal candidate will have current 3rd Party NDT Level II Certification for MT, PT, and UT with Phased Arry issued by an accredited independent certification body such as ASNT-9712, API QUTE/QUSE/QUPA, ICC, and must be currently certified as an AWS CWI.
- Experience with inspecting for Corrosion and working in Refineries and industrial settings.
- Background in Quality Assurance processes and procedures to meet industry standards.
- Expertise in Welding Inspection and familiarity with associated codes and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to generate comprehensive inspection reports, and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work on-site in Houston, TX, and adapt to a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Valid driver’s license and the physical capability to perform testing in various industrial conditions.
Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- 10 years of experience in NDT Inspection is required
- NDT Classroom Training & Minimum Experience Hours IAW ASNT 9712
- MT – 40 hours with 800 hours OJT
- PT – 40 Hours with 800 hours OJT
- UT – 126 Hours with 2000 hours OJT
- PAUT - 80 Hours with 1000 hours OJT
- RT - Film - 105 Hours WITH 2000 OJT
- Must have Classroom Training Certificates signed by an ASNT Level III
- On-the-job training hours must be signed off by an NDT Level II per method
- Prior NDT Level II certification for MT, PT, RT, UT with PAUT, and VT as an AWS CWI is preferred.
