Position Overview

Material Handling Solutions is seeking an experienced CAD Designer to join our engineering team in Boise. This position plays a key role in developing 3D models and construction drawings for custom bulk material handling equipment and industrial structures.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, project managers, clients, and vendors to transform conceptual designs into detailed fabrication and construction documents. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to unique projects serving mining and heavy industrial facilities throughout the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D models of bulk material handling equipment and supporting structures.
  • Prepare layouts, plot plans, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop practical and cost-effective designs.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors, steel fabricators, and clients.
  • Review vendor drawings and incorporate external information into project models.
  • Maintain drawing standards and project documentation.
  • Support projects through design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree in Drafting Technology, Design Technology, or related field.
  • 5 years of industrial, mechanical, structural, or material handling design experience.
  • Strong 3D modeling and 2D drafting skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and experience using 3D design software such as Advance Steel, Inventor, SolidWorks, Tekla, Revit, Plant 3D, CADWorx, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative office environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with Advance Steel.
  • Experience designing conveyors, bulk material handling equipment, industrial structures, process plants, mining facilities, and heavy industrial systems.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, or reviewing structural steel fabrication drawings.
  • Understanding of steel fabrication, industrial construction, and equipment installation practices.
