As a Geotechnical Drilling Crew Chief, you'll support geotechnical and environmental drilling operations side-by-side with an experienced Driller Assistants & Engineers. Our crews are built with people possessing skills from many different industries: Construction, Welding, Small Engine Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, Geologists, Landscaping, Road Construction and many more. You will drill, operate and maintain drilling equipment, and help complete projects safely, efficiently and on schedule.
This is a hands-on, physical role for someone who enjoys mechanical work, problem-solving in real time, being outdoors in all weather and being part of a tight-knit crew.
Crew Chief
They are responsible for and working with a Driller to complete assignments using various drilling and sampling techniques.
As a Crew Chief, you’re the point person in the field—leading drilling crews, keeping jobs moving, and making sure work is done safely and right the first time. You’ll run day-to-day drilling operations, coordinate with the office and project managers, and make real-time decisions when site conditions change (because they always do). This role is hands-on: you’ll operate equipment, guide the crew, handle jobsite logistics, and make sure drilling, sampling, and documentation meet project requirements. You’re also responsible for safety on site—setting expectations, watching out for your crew, and speaking up when something doesn’t look right. It’s a role for someone who knows drilling, communicates clearly, takes ownership of the work, and isn’t afraid to lead from the front while getting their hands dirty alongside the crew.
Qualifications and Skills

- Valid driver’s license and good driving record is required
- CDL – Class A license is preferred but not required. Assistance programs available to employees seeking CDL licensing after one year of employment
- Ability to handle physical demands 8-12 hours a day and 5 -7 days a week
- Looks forward to working in various weather conditions, navigating an array of terrain and traveling to different locations
- Overnight travel is required but varies by assigned projects: Potentially 2-14 days at a time
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, a physical with a 75lb lift test and a background check featuring a Motor Vehicle Report
- Participate in a random drug-test program
Responsibilities and Duties
· Lead and assist the Crew in setting up, operating, and maintaining drill rigs and equipment, accomplishing task efficiently, safely and to client and/or employer expectations
· Responsible for the completion of assignments using various drilling techniques, including lifting, calibrating, reporting and other manual work as required
· Drive, operate and maintain drill rig, vehicles, forklift, skid steer, and other equipment
· Drive and operate drill rigs, work trucks, semi-trucks and trailers, forklifts, skid steers and support vehicles, if appropriately licensed
· Support Crew with positioning and aligning rig according to project specifications.
· Prepare work sites by setting up tools, loading / unloading equipment and clearing areas for drilling operations.
· Preform and document routine maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and cleaning of rigs, tools, and vehicles.
· Follow safety guidelines and ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations.
· Remain vigilant at all times.

Pay: From $28.00 per hour
