Insurance Defense Attorney (In-House)
A rapidly growing insurance-focused organization is building a high-performance, in-house legal team and is seeking Insurance Defense Attorneys to join at a pivotal stage of growth.
This role offers the opportunity to handle a full caseload from inception through resolution , working alongside experienced leadership to deliver high-quality legal outcomes while helping shape a modern, efficient in-house defense model.

Key Responsibilities
Litigation Management
- Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters from intake through final resolution
- Handle all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation
- Develop case strategies aligned with organizational goals and risk tolerance
- Represent clients in court appearances, hearings, mediations, and trials as needed
Case Evaluation & Strategy
- Analyze claims and assess liability, damages, and exposure
- Provide clear recommendations on settlement strategy versus trial
- Collaborate with leadership on complex or high-exposure cases
- Ensure consistent, high-quality legal work product across all matters
Collaboration & Internal Partnership
- Work closely with claims professionals, internal legal leadership, and external partners
- Contribute to building efficient legal workflows and best practices
- Support the transition of work from outside counsel to the in-house team
- Maintain strong communication across stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency
Regulatory & Legal Excellence
- Stay current on Michigan No-Fault laws, auto negligence, and insurance regulations
- Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in litigation strategy and defense approaches
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
- 3–8 years of experience in insurance defense litigation
- Strong knowledge of Michigan No-Fault and auto insurance defense
- Proven ability to independently manage cases from start to finish
- Experience handling depositions, motions, and court appearances
- Trial experience is a plus, but not required
