What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst position at Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union?
PURPOSE
Provides support to all employees in accordance with the Credit Union’s established policies, procedures, and core values. In order to achieve the objectives of the Credit Union these responsibilities shall be executed promptly, courteously and accurately.
FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for member marketing of the Credit Union and having a knowledge of all services offered to a degree that will enable answering questions, or referring members for specific services.
- Assists in development of and administers accounting policies and directives.
- Assists with the managing of the Credit Union’s Investment Portfolio including preparation and record retention of required documentation for Investment Security purchases and sales according to the Investment Policy and assist in preparing materials for Investment Committee Meetings, attend Investment Committee Meetings and assist in Investment Committee presentations.
- Extract, transform, load, and validate data files to support analytic and financial platforms and projects including ALM modeling, loan analytics platform, Allowance for Loan Loss platform and other financial analytics platforms and systems.
- Assess ALM baseline modeling forecasts and reports. Evaluate or develop whatif strategies as requested from timetotime. Periodically review ALM modeling assumptions including prepayment & decay rates, and core deposit analysis. Assist in preparing agenda and materials for ALM Committee meetings, attend ALM Committee meetings and assist in ALM Committee presentations.
- Compile monthly calculations for the Allowance for Loan Loss. Participate in evolving ALL calculation & modeling to the CECL methodology. Analyze information from the loan analytics platform (nCino) for application to ALL modeling.
- Assist in preparing agenda and materials for Monthly Finance Meetings, attend and assists in presentations at the Monthly Finance Meetings.
- Take a lead role in modeling financial changes throughout the organization. Perform recurring and onrequest financial analysis including loan and deposit pricing, vendor and projectrelated analysis, and other similar requests or projects.
- Responsible for the preparation of the Credit Union budget including ongoing monthly reporting and income statement budget variances.
- Perform reviews of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting to ensure accurate and timely financial information is provided to management and the Board of Directors to effectively manage the operations and be accountable to its members and regulatory agencies.
- Support strategic planning through longterm financial forecasting, scenario analysis, and stress testing.
- Assists with the preparation and leadership process for the Financial Statement Audit and NCUA Regulatory exam.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of NCUA, GAAP, and FASB requirements, including CECL compliance and evolving regulatory guidance.
- Provide training or mentoring to accounting staff on financial analysis tools and processes.
- Prepares and presents miscellaneous financial reports or tasks for VP of Finance & Accounting and the Chief Financial Officer.
- Maintain continuing education in financial analysis, ALM, CECL, and credit union industry trends.
- Actively contributes to the success of the Credit Union by working positively within the department and with coworkers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PREREQUISITES FOR THE POSITION:
- Minimum Education: College graduate with a B.S. or B.A. in Business
Administration/Management, Accounting or Finance related degree or equivalent. Five years of credit union or similar experience may be considered in lieu of the above education.
- Minimum Experience: Five years of administrative, supervisory, accounting or finance work. Prior experience with MVFCU may be considered in lieu of a portion of the above experience.
- Personal Characteristics and Skills: Must be of the highest integrity, in good health and with personal habits above reproach. Must practice confidentiality. Must be a mature person with sound judgment. Must have the ability to meet and work effectively with people of varying levels of education and experience, and be able to communicate, both written and orally, with same. Must have a high degree of selfmotivation, accuracy and organizational skills.
- Technical Skills: Must include prior training or performance of operating a calculator, computer, word processor at an accurate level of 45wpm, and have working knowledge of MS Office Software.
- Working Conditions: Continuous alertness, precision and concentration to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of documents and transactions. Frequent performing basic numeric calculations, as well as writing and reading. Continuous use of initiative, ingenuity, and creativity in identifying employee/member needs, solving employee/member problems. Continuous memory demands in recalling Credit Union policies and services. This position may require extended or irregular hours and may require travel. Continuous standing and/or sitting for long periods of time when performing duties related to the position. Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
