The Environmental Health and Safety Manager provides leadership for environmental, health, and safety programs across a multi-site manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving programs that ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and protect employees, facilities, and the environment. The position leads safety training, audits, incident investigations, corrective actions, and compliance reporting, while partnering with site leadership and cross-functional teams to strengthen a proactive safety culture. This role also supports other company locations and requires travel up to 25%.
Principal Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety policies, programs, and procedures that protect employees and support environmental compliance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA requirements, and maintain all required training records, manuals, reports, and related documentation.
- Conduct facility and process audits to identify risks, recommend corrective and preventive actions, and follow through to ensure timely resolution.
- Lead investigations of incidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root cause, implement corrective actions, and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for managers and employees on workplace safety, injury prevention, fire prevention, chemical handling, equipment safety, and related topics.
- Oversee OSHA-related activities, including inspections, annual reporting, postings, citations, hearings, and ongoing compliance support.
- Manage safety performance reporting, including monthly safety metrics, regulatory filings, and other reports for leadership and external agencies as needed.
- Partner with leadership to manage workers’ compensation trends, support return-to-work efforts, and recommend actions that improve overall safety performance.
- Lead the Safety Committee program and promote a strong culture of safety across all supported locations.
- Travel up to 25% to support other company locations.
Competencies
- Strong leadership capability with the ability to influence safety culture, drive accountability, and partner effectively with leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Deep knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, including OSHA standards, and the ability to apply them in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated skill in risk assessment, incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations, training, and performance updates to site leadership and senior management.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage multiple priorities, and work independently in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret safety data, identify trends, and recommend practical improvements.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence, and building sustainable safety processes and procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Eight or more years of environmental, health, and safety experience, including prior management experience.
- Expert knowledge of federal and state OSHA standards and related environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Recognized ASSE qualifications, OSHA 30-hour certification, and EPA, DEP, or other environmental certifications.
