What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paint Automation Engineer position at Mastermold LLC?
Are you the kind of engineer who likes to see your code flying around on a robot arm instead of sitting in a laptop folder? We’re looking for Robotic Paint Engineers who can blend automation, programming, and paint process know-how to keep our production lines running smooth, safe, and efficient.
In this role, you’ll own and improve robotic paint applications from end to end; programming paths, dialing in film build and coverage, troubleshooting issues on the floor, and partnering closely with production, maintenance, and quality.
If you ever turned a saggy, inconsistent paint job into a repeatable, robotic showpiece; or debugged a robot at 2 a.m. and felt secretly proud of it…we definitely want to talk to you.
What You’ll Do
Program & Optimize Robots
Create, modify, and optimize paint programs and robot paths (e.g., ABB/FANUC or similar systems).
Adjust gun triggering, speeds, and distances for proper coverage, film build, and edge quality.
Support color change routines, purge sequences, and recipe management.
Support Daily Production
Respond to production issues involving robots, paint application, or spray parameters.
Diagnose root causes (mechanical, electrical, software, or process) and implement corrective actions.
Monitor cycle times, transfer efficiency, and scrap/rework rates, and recommend improvements.
Process & Quality Control
Develop and maintain standard work, setup sheets, and paint process parameters.
Work with Quality to meet appearance, adhesion, and thickness requirements.
Perform trials for new parts, new colors, and new materials and document results.
Continuous Improvement & Safety
Identify and lead projects to improve uptime, reduce material usage, and stabilize processes.
Help implement 5S/6S, TPM/AM, and other operational excellence initiatives around the paint line.
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards related to paint and robotics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Maintenance, Engineering, and Production Supervisors to plan downtime and upgrades.
Train operators and technicians on basic robot operation, alarm response, and best practices.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Controls, or related field
(or equivalent hands-on experience in an automated paint/robotic environment).Experience with industrial robots (ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa/Motoman, or similar).
Hands-on experience with automotive/industrial paint or coatings processes strongly preferred.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and process documentation.
Strong troubleshooting skills—comfortable on the production floor, not just behind a desk.
Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, or data collection systems is a plus.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, plant-floor-focused mindset.
What We Offer
Competitive salary and performance-based incentives
Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.)
Opportunities to lead impactful automation and process-improvement projects
A hands-on, fast-paced environment where your ideas can quickly turn into real results
Professional growth in robotics, controls, and advanced manufacturing
Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
