Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and engaging After School Chess Instructor to lead our students in developing strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and a love for the game. This role involves creating a positive learning environment for children K-5, fostering their intellectual growth through chess activities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and possess strong classroom management skills to ensure a safe and productive experience.
For the Winter Semester we have an opening in two classes. Please do not apply if you are unavailable during these times. In the Spring Semester that begins in March there will be 2-4 additional classes available.
Tuesdays 4:15- 5:15
Wednesdays 3:30 - 4:30
Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate engaging chess lessons tailored to different age groups and skill levels
- Manage classroom dynamics to promote respectful behavior and active participation
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during activities
- Maintain organized materials and resources for ongoing instruction
- Incorporate fun, educational activities that enhance critical thinking and sportsmanship
Requirements
- Experience working with children in educational or recreational settings such as daycare, camp, tutoring, or childcare
- Knowledge of classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies
- Background in early childhood education, childhood development, or related fields is preferred
- Ability to teach chess fundamentals and advanced strategies as appropriate for skill levels
- Passion for fostering a positive learning environment that encourages growth and confidence in children
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
Expected hours: 2 per week
