Responsibilities:
- Examine and repair structures
- Sculpt and piece together siding, drywall, kitchen cabinets, and furniture
- Confirm flooring, roofing, and drywall are level and compatible
- Quantify, shape, cut, and smooth carpentry materials
- Fabricate rafters, partitions, stairways, and window and door frames
- The carpenter is responsible for the quality of whatever work he or she is assigned by the lead. Generally, a carpenter should be proficient at the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, layout for stairs and common rafters, read blueprints, utilize appropriate math skills, recognize problems and ask for help at appropriate times, and envision all steps of the construction process.
- Carpenters are under the direction and supervision of the Project Lead while on a project and will generally work with all Project Leads as requested. Lifting up 80 lbs is a given.
- You must have the following tools: hammer, chalkline, chisels, screwdrivers, nail set, nail pullers, prybar, toolbelt, kraft knife, 3/8 drill or cordless drill, extension cord, leather work gloves, jigsaw, circular saw, level, block plane, transportation, and a valid driver's license.
- The carpenter is expected to notify the Production Manager of assignment before leaving a job site, if not needed by the Project Lead, the following day.
- The carpenter will always be training to learn new skills and handle additional responsibilities. During this training, the carpenter will begin to acquire the major skills and tools needed to become a Project Lead.
- When the need for direction becomes minimal, the carpenter will begin to assume Project Lead responsibilities on smaller, less complicated jobs (e.g., small bathrooms, warranty work, roofing, signing projects).
- Job site clean up and lock up
- Teamwork: Fosters an enthusiastic, creative, "can-do" attitude, and embraces a teamwork mentality in partnership with the Sales and Estimating departments in pursuit of Company goals
Qualifications:
- Accurate measuring and math skills required
- Successfully completed formal carpentry apprenticeship
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred
- Great physical condition and dexterity
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Passion for Excellence
- Must have the heart of a lifelong learner with the desire to excel at our craft
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a general contracting or custom building/remodeling company
- Thorough understanding of construction principles, methods, and specifications, both within the Company and the industry
- Strong knowledge of and experience in all facets of carpentry, from rough to finish
- Consistent pursuit of additional industry knowledge and Best Practices
- Ability to understand design intent and be able, if necessary, to work through low levels of detail
- Ability to read and interpret plans, details, and specifications, and can visualize in three dimensions from two-dimensional data
- Forward-looking, able to anticipate problems and challenges well in advance, and the ability to solve those problems and deal effectively with variables in situations where limited standardization may exist
- Strong general math skills (algebra and geometry) to facilitate calculation of necessary job equations: area, volume, angles, pitch, diameter, circumference, and square footage, etc.
- Basic Computer literacy –competency in MS Word, Excel, Project, and industry-specific software for managing change orders, job cost, and related project commitments
- Proactive, flexible, team player who is comfortable working in a small company environment, taking on a leadership role
- Highly motivated, self-starter who is organized and efficient, with above-average time management skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Physical abilities essential to the job include the ability to walk, talk, and hear. There are regular demands that physically require the employee to be able to lift and carry at least 80 pounds. The employee must be able to see and focus clearly both at a distance and close up.
- Employee will be subject to and must be able to work in the extremes of the outdoor environment in both summer and winter
- Employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle to and from the job site
