Position Overview
The Field Operations Manager is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and driving execution across multiple active projects, typically ranging from three to four concurrent jobs. This role exists to establish control, consistency, and accountability within field operations by ensuring that all projects are executed in alignment with estimates, schedules, and company performance standards.
This individual serves as the primary bridge between the office and the field, translating project plans into execution while providing real-time feedback on job performance, labor productivity, material coordination, and field conditions. The Field Operations Manager plays a direct role in protecting company profitability through disciplined oversight of job costing, labor efficiency, and change order identification.
Core Responsibilities
Field Execution Oversight
- Oversee execution of all assigned projects to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, and estimated labor targets
- Maintain visibility across multiple job sites and adjust involvement based on project needs, complexity, and location
- Provide on-site leadership when necessary to stabilize jobs, resolve issues, or support Foremen
Labor & Productivity Management
- Monitor labor performance against estimated hours and production expectations
- Identify inefficiencies and implement corrective actions in real time
- Reallocate manpower across projects to maintain optimal productivity and schedule adherence
Job Costing & Financial Awareness
- Ensure field compliance with job costing procedures and accurate reporting of labor and progress
- Continuously compare estimated versus actual job performance and communicate variances to Project Managers
- Support profitability by maintaining awareness of cost impacts related to labor, materials, and execution decisions
Change Order Identification & Communication
- Proactively identify out-of-scope work, field changes, and delays that impact project cost or timeline
- Communicate change order opportunities immediately to the office for pricing and submission
- Support documentation efforts to ensure all billable work is captured and recovered
Material & Shop Coordination
- Coordinate material needs in alignment with job progress and field requirements
- Communicate regularly with the Shop Manager regarding fabrication schedules, priorities, and delivery timelines
- Ensure materials are available when needed to prevent delays or inefficiencies in the field
Foreman Leadership & Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Foremen across all assigned projects
- Provide direction, support, and accountability to ensure consistent execution standards
- Develop Foremen by reinforcing expectations related to productivity, communication, and job performance
Communication & Reporting
- Maintain consistent communication with Project Managers regarding job status, risks, delays, and needs
- Provide clear and timely updates on field conditions, manpower, and production progress
- Participate in weekly project review meetings, including in-office presence on Fridays for coordination and planning
Performance Expectations & Success Measures
- Labor performance maintained within or below estimated hours across all assigned projects
- Projects executed in alignment with established schedules and milestones
- Consistent and accurate communication between field and office teams
- Timely identification and capture of all change order opportunities
- Reduction in rework, delays, and field inefficiencies
- Improved overall field productivity and crew utilization

Requirements
- Minimum of seven years experience in commercial construction, HVAC mechanical experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints and construction documents
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to successfully pass all required Pennsylvania state and jobsite-specific background checks
- Ability to obtain and maintain clearances required for work in school and public environments, including child abuse and related compliance requirements
Preferred Experience
- Experience with job costing practices and cost control
- Project management experience within commercial construction
- Scheduling and manpower coordination across multiple projects
- Supervision of multiple crews and job sites
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range of $85,000 to $100,000 annually, based on experience
