Broadband Field Technician I (Paid Training – $23/hr)

MasTec Advanced Technologies is hiring Broadband Field Technicians to support service areas in and around Sylva, NC within a 35-mile radius.

This is an entry-level field position with paid training provided. No prior fiber experience is required. Technicians will work with broadband systems, including fiber and coaxial cable, in residential and outdoor environments.

Position Summary

The Broadband Field Technician I installs, modifies, repairs, and disconnects broadband services, including internet, video, and phone. This role involves hands-on fieldwork and interaction with customers while maintaining service quality and safety standards.

Work Details

• Service Area: Sylva, NC and surrounding areas (within 35 miles)
• Training Location: Greenville, NC (flight tickets, hotel and expenses provided)
• Pay Rate: $23/hour (during training and after)

Key Responsibilities

• Install, route, and secure fiber optic and coaxial cables
• Perform basic splicing, termination, and system setup
• Test and troubleshoot service connections
• Complete service calls, repairs, and disconnections as needed
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and equipment used
• Provide professional and customer-focused service
• Follow all company safety standards and procedures

Training

Paid training is provided in Greenville, NC and includes:

• Structured, hands-on training covering fiber, coax, safety, and tools
• Field experience alongside experienced technicians
• Training is fully paid at $23/hour
• Travel and hotel accommodations included

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly pay at $23/hour (training and active work)

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Willingness to learn technical skills and follow procedures
• Basic communication and customer service skills

Requirements

• Ability to lift 60–80 lbs and climb ladders up to 36 ft
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to work at heights using proper safety equipment
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to pass background, drug, and motor vehicle checks
• High school diploma or GED required

Preferred (Not Required)

• Experience with fiber optics, coax, or telecommunications
• Basic knowledge of networking or installation tools

Work Environment

• Travel to job sites using a company vehicle
• Outdoor work in varying conditions
• Use of ladders, tools, and safety equipment
• Exposure to construction-like environments and moderate noise
