Boys Soccer Head Coach (High School) - MaST

The HS Boys Soccer season begins mid-August and runs through end of October (and potentially into November depending on playoffs).  The position entails a 5-6 day (some Saturdays) per week after-school commitment during the season for practices and games.  Early evening availability required during the season as most games start at 3:45.  Availability must begin starting at 1:30 for some away games.  The successful candidate will also lead team initiatives including fundraisers, team events, and facilitate off-season workouts.  Must also have valid PA driver's license and drive school 9-passenger van to practices and games.  MaST Community Charter School is a member of PIAA and plays in the Bicentennial Athletic League.  This posting will remain active until the position is filled.  Up-to-date school clearances required prior to the season starting.  Must also obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification (provided by the school) and be willing to complete online coach certification class (paid for by the school).  The start date is mid-August

Qualifications:

  1. Appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification.
  2. Strong knowledge base of the sport.
  3. Previous coaching experience of the sport preferred.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administrator may deem appropriate
  5. Required certifications

 

Job Overview:        

  1. To organize, coordinate and promote a comprehensive athletic program that is designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community.
  2. To provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and will stress the importance of academic achievement.
  3. To demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, human relations and be a positive role model for all students.
  4. Supervises all students participating in the assigned sport and assistant coach (if applicable).

Responsibilities:

  1. Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  2. Assesses players’ skills and assigns team positions.
  3. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  4. Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  5. Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary.
  6. Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  7. Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  8. Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
  9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  10. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
  11. Follows established school procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  12. Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  13. Follows league, state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  14. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  15. Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media and other appropriate parties.
  16. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  17. Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  18. Participates in special activities that includes parent’s night, banquets, and pep assemblies (where applicable).
  19. Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, uniform inventory, and other related records.
  20. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  21. Provides annual budgetary needs to the Athletic Director and follows all financial procedures set forth by the school.
  22. Communicates to all participants the policies of the team, school, and Board of Trustees, relating to school sponsored activities (per regulations on Student Responsibilities and Rights and Extra-Curricular Activities).
  23. Submits and maintains all required forms necessary on the league, district, and state level.
  24. Establishes procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.
  25. Provides an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and compiles and maintain accurate individual and team performance records for future needs.
  26. Instructs participants in safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and/or trainer immediately; implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations; ensure the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times.
  27. Maintains as close to a five-days-per-week schedule of practices and games as possible that is understandably adjusted for facility and resource availability.
  28. Encourages and facilitates off-season workouts, camps, and programs to promote continued student development.
  29. Aids in the recruitment process for students moving to the collegiate level where applicable.
  30. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Principal.
