MANUFACTURING MAINTENANCE MANAGER
After 20 years of a highly successful career with our company, our Maintenance Director is retiring, and we are searching for the ideal candidate to join our team to fill this vital growth-oriented hands-on leadership position. Founded in 1949, Massillon Container Company/Vail Packaging is a well-established third generation family-owned corrugated packaging manufacturer located in Navarre, Ohio. Our union production team works Monday thru Friday day shifts with occasional advance notified overtime and on rare occasions we work Saturday overtime shifts. This is a great opportunity for the Maintenance individual who is interested in growing into a Director role as the company continues to grow along with the new managers’ skills and abilities in managing maintenance in the corrugated packaging industry. We are 76 years strong, working year round without a layoff in over 20 years!
Complying with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements, the Maintenance Manager primarily works an on-shift schedule to lead and optimize maintenance operations in the Navarre, OH union corrugated packaging manufacturing facility. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and driving continuous improvement across all maintenance functions. This position works with the plant managers to lead plant maintenance, focusing on equipment reliability (mechanics, electrics, hydraulics, pneumatics), reducing downtime, and driving continuous improvement through PM and repair programs, budget management, and team leadership, assisting with safety (OSHA) and operational efficiency for corrugated packaging machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all maintenance activities for a corrugated packaging plant, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the maintenance related knowledge and skills of the company Maintenance Technician, Production Supervisors, and related nonunion support staff.
- Implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime.
- Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and vendor relationships.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment failures.
- Collaborate with production teams to support operational goals and capital projects.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of maintenance supervisory experience in a manufacturing facility.
- Possess well-developed hands-on experience and skills in industrial maintenance including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and processes
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of building high-performing teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Skilled in PLC operations and programming is a plus
- Proven experience with corrugated packaging equipment and processes is a plus.
- Leadership & Team Management: Recruit, train, and mentor maintenance supervisors and technicians, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Develop and execute robust PM and repair strategies to maximize uptime for converting and finishing equipment.
- Operations Support: Coordinate maintenance to minimize disruption, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure compliance with safety (OSHA) and quality standards.
- Budget & Inventory: Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and vendor contracts to control costs.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive RCA for failures, implement corrective actions, and manage capital projects for equipment upgrades. Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols, assist in conducting safety meetings, and managing regulatory adherence.
Essential Qualifications:
- Experience: 3-5 years in industrial maintenance, with significant time in corrugated packaging or similar converting operations as a plus.
- Technical Skills: Strong background in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems relevant to corrugated machinery. PLC skills are considered a plus.
- Management Skills: Proven leadership, project management, and strong communication abilities.
- Software: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to work with computer-based maintenance management programs.
