Responsibilities
- Verify patient information and eligibility for coverage
- Review medical records to ensure accurate documentation for billing purposes
- Process insurance claims and payments
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collections processes and insurance appeals
- Respond to billing phone calls and questions
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures as needed for accurate billing
- Stay updated on health insurance policies, medical terminology, and coding changes to ensure compliance
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing within a healthcare setting, preferably ophthalmology
- Strong knowledge of medical coding
- Familiarity with EMR systems
