Summary
Under minimum supervision, the Lead Certified Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for training, overseeing, and assigning daily responsibilities to clinical staff to ensure optimization of clinic flow and patient satisfaction. Performs a wide range of clinical and administrative tasks to facilitate the delivery of eye care in an outpatient clinic and/or in procedural areas.

Essential Functions
- Responsible for creating weekly clinical staff assignments and making the appropriate adjustments to facilitate clinic flow.
- Meets regularly with the leadership team to provide feedback regarding opportunities for organizational improvements to optimize clinic efficiency and increase employee and patient satisfaction.
- Assists with employee onboarding, training, and development as directed by the Clinical Manager and/or Director of Clinical Operations.
- Leads team huddles and/or meetings with the clinical support staff as needed.
- Ensures equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Ability to troubleshoot common equipment issues and escalate when appropriate.
- Delegates tasks to team members as needed.
- Performs administrative tasks, including inventory management, triaging patient calls, and in-basket management.
- Performs a full range of advanced ophthalmic exams, diagnostic imaging, and testing under the scope of practice as a JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA).
- Complies with all hospital policies, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and adheres to JCAHO standards.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant [COA] - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) required
Experience
Experience working in a supervised setting as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) 3-5 years required and Experience working in ophthalmology 3-5 years required and Previous Leadership experience 1-2 years preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire staff. Ability to train and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Proficient in interpersonal and customer service skills to effectively work with patients and families.
- Advanced knowledge of ocular terminology, anatomy and physiology of the eye, ocular diseases and disorders, ophthalmic procedures and pharmacology.
- Advanced knowledge of infection control and aseptic and sterilization techniques.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the patients’ age, mental, and physical needs.
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to changes in fast-paced, high-volume clinics and procedural areas.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with members of the care team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions based on the role’s scope of practice.
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite.

38.30-57.59 Commensurate with experience
