Job Description:
Hourly Rate: $20.00
Working Hours: 18.5 hours per week
The Massachusetts College of Art and Design is seeking a temporary part time library assistant. The Library Assistant will assist on various projects such creating and cataloging images for online collections, preparing videos for digital asset management systems, and making digital documents Title II compliant. This position will also provide reference services and circulation desk coverage. The candidate must be able to work three weekday mornings starting at 8:00 am. This position is a 18.5 hour per week position. $20 per hour. The contract is from April through December. The postition reports to the Library Chair.
Examples of Duties:
- Creates digital images and videos with a scanner or digital camera.
- Edits and catalogs digital images and videos.
- Collaborates with library staff to create an achievable workflow for the production, cataloging and upload of digital assets in a timely manner with high quality results.
- Assess and edits digital documents for Title II compliance.
- Supports staff at the circulation desk.
- Provides reference services to patrons.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Experience with Adobe Suite
- Experience with spreadsheet software (sheets, excel, ect.)
- Background in libraries
- Flexibility appropriate for a dynamic work setting, with desire to participate in collaborative problem solving.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to sit for long periods of time, to move books and packages, and to distinguish color.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in visual arts
- Experience with video editing and format conversion
- Experience with Wordpress
- Experience with digital asset management tools such as JStor Forum/Stewardship and Resource Space.
- Experience with cataloging standards, VRA Core 4.0, CCO, the Getty Vocabularies
