A Research Lab Tech I position is available in Dr. Raja Bhattacharyya’s Laboratory in the Genetics and Aging Research Unit, to help identify molecular targets regulating mitochondrial pathology in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The incumbent will be working under the supervision of Raja Bhattacharyya, PhD., Assistant Professor of Neurology.
The successful individual will investigate the molecular mechanism(s) of how AD-associated cellular proteins in the ER and mitochondria regulate mitochondrial function and the biosynthesis of the amyloid beta from APP, central to the pathogenesis of AD. The project will include confocal microscopy, immunocytochemistry, protein biochemistry, cellular/molecular biology, 2- or 3-dimensional cell culture, and mouse models.
Given that several experiments for this project will be performed with other lab members, the candidate should be able to efficiently communicate and collaborate with lab colleagues. The candidate is expected to show a high degree of interest in the project, self-motivation, and initiative to problem-solving. The candidate is expected to have worked independently and under close supervision. The supervisor will be available to handle unusual situations and will review the progress of work.
