Education High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Yes Licenses and Credentials Experience Experience working as a medical interpreter, preferably in a healthcare or medical setting 2-3 years required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Solid understanding of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols across various medical specialties. - Adhere to professional standards of ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality as outlined by interpreting organizations. - Excellent communication skills, including active listening and clear and concise interpretation abilities. - Demonstrate competency and sensitivity towards the Deaf community and their unique communication needs. - Exhibit professionalism, punctuality, and reliability in all aspects of the interpreting role. - Proficiency in using video remote interpreting platforms and other interpreting-related technology.

- Provide accurate and confidential interpretation services between healthcare providers, patients, and their families who use American Sign Language as their primary means of communication.
- Serve as a cultural mediator, bridging the gap between Deaf or hard-of-hearing patients and healthcare professionals to ensure understanding and respect for cultural differences.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of medical terminology, abbreviations, and procedures to facilitate accurate interpretation of medical discussions.
- Maintain a high level of sensitivity and professionalism while interpreting sensitive and confidential medical information.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of interpreted encounters, including dates, times, locations, and names of participants.
