Job Summary
The Lead Surgical Technologist (Thoracic) is a key member of the perioperative team, working under the supervision of the surgeon and in collaboration with nurses and multidisciplinary staff.
This role serves as an expert resource within the service line and is responsible for coordinating surgical equipment, ensuring operational readiness, and supporting high-quality patient care in the operating room.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures
- Set up and maintain sterile surgical instrumentation, supplies, and equipment
- Monitor equipment and instrumentation during procedures; communicate and escalate concerns as needed
- Support on-time OR starts and efficient turnovers
- Coordinate staff coverage for breaks and lunches when needed
- Serve as scrub staff as required to maintain operations
- Oversee case cart accuracy and ensure next-day case readiness
- Attend daily huddles with CPD, vendors, and reps to review upcoming cases
- Collaborate with surgeons and staff to maintain and update preference cards
- Partner with CPD, Materials Management, and Clinical Support to ensure smooth operations
– Inspect surgical instruments and equipment for functionality and cleanliness
– Maintain accurate inventory and documentation of surgical supplies and equipment
– Assist with staff training on proper equipment use and handling
– Support instrument kit optimization initiatives
– Assist surgeons within scope of practice
– Act as a resource for troubleshooting equipment and workflow challenges
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Certifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (required)
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience as a surgical technologist (required)
– Thoracic surgical experience (required)

Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $38.30 – $56.59 per hour
