Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician / Receptionist to join our healthcare team. This dual-role position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for patient care and medical office operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a solid understanding of medical terminology, and experience working in ophthalmology or optometry settings. This role involves providing exceptional patient service while managing administrative duties to ensure smooth clinic operations.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and efficiently manage check-in and check-out procedures at the front desk
- Assist patients with intake forms, verify insurance information, and update medical records in EMR systems such as Revolution
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by performing preliminary tests and collecting relevant medical history
- Maintain aseptic technique during clinical procedures to ensure patient safety and infection control
- Assist ophthalmologists and optometrists during exams, including handling equipment and recording findings
- Educate patients on optical products, lens options, and retail sales opportunities
- Manage appointment scheduling, recall systems, and follow-up communications
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality
- Support billing and coding processes related to ophthalmology services when necessary
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical office settings, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry clinics
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinic procedures related to eye care
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Revolution or similar platforms
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality protocols
- Experience with optical sales, retail math, and product knowledge is a plus
- Excellent front desk skills with a friendly demeanor and strong organizational abilities
- Knowledge of medical billing and coding processes related to ophthalmic services is desirable
- Prior clinic experience involving pediatrics or specialized care is advantageous
