ABOUT MASON STREET TRAINING

Mason Street Training (MST) is opening a trade school in downtown Stamford, CT offering accelerated training programs for Electrical and HVAC technicians. MST will run 8-week cohorts offering hands-on training for career changers pursuing an entry-level Electrician or Electrical Apprentice role. Training focuses on safety, tools, basic electrical skills, and the durable skills needed for professional conduct on jobsites. MST also offers two-week trade trial programs for those exploring a career in the trades.

MST’s teaching model focuses on discovery and repetitions in the lab and a coach-like style that allows students to ingrain new skills quickly. Teaching experience is not required, with your expertise in the field, we can help you translate your knowledge into effective lessons.

This educational model, combined with our focus on employer partnerships and mentor support, differentiates MST from other trade schools.

THE ROLE

As the Lead HVAC Instructor you will receive paid training on MST’s teaching philosophy and ongoing upskilling opportunities throughout your tenure. Once courses begin, you’ll review lesson plans for the 2 and 8 week curriculums, give demo lessons to staff, and lead student cohorts through training. Days are structured for short lectures followed by extensive lab time so students learn by doing. The curriculum covers entry level HVAC work, safety/OSHA 30, tool overviews, durable skills, jobsite protocols, and interview and job-prep guidance for students.

You will be assisted in the classroom and during labs by 1-2 coaches who are also licensed HVAC techs, and students will further be supported by our network of mentors. You will also have the opportunity to work with our employer partners on lab ideas and required training.

You’ll work with our industry-leading academic leads who helped develop the MST curriculum.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Deliver HVAC Training: Lead all HVAC lectures and lab sessions, setting the standard for quality work.
  • Support Student Success: Coordinate with administration on student progress and attendance, complete assessments, and ensure compliance with school and state requirements.
  • Guide in-class Coaches: Brief and debrief rotating coaches before and after each project-based module, and collect their feedback to ensure MST’s quality standard is maintained in the classroom and lab.
  • Assess Student Readiness: Evaluate student skill competency through hands-on performance assessments, group work, and in class presentations.
  • Refine lesson plans and coursework: Document key learnings and feedback from students to improve lesson plans over time.

HOW YOU STAND OUT

We’re looking for respected HVAC technicians with at least a decade of on the job experience. You’ve trained apprentices and are passionate about sharing your knowledge. In most cases you will be teaching students who have already had another career and haven’t been in a classroom in many years. You’ll need to figure out how to motivate them and get them the skills they need to excel in your demanding field.

You’ll take time to explain the why behind HVAC codes, be direct but thoughtful when you correct their mistakes, and help them arrive at answers on their own during lab work, rather than just lecturing them. You’ll always prioritize safety and bring as much real-life experience as possible.

MST has worked with leading educators to refine a teaching methodology called “See it, Name it, Do it,” and you’ll adapt to this proven method.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB

  • CT HVAC or Refrigeration license
  • 10 years of hands-on HVAC experience, including residential and commercial systems
  • Strong working knowledge of refrigerant handling, EPA 608 certification, electrical diagnosis, and air distribution
  • Experience mentoring apprentices or junior techs in a field or shop setting
  • Ability to explain technical concepts accessibly

BONUS POINTS

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification
  • Experience with commercial refrigeration, VRF systems, or building automation
  • Prior adult education, apprenticeship instruction, or vocational training experience

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

MST offers the opportunity to transition your work, full or part-time, to a steady teaching position. No more on-call hours, no more emergency calls. You’ll have a consistent daily schedule with no need for invoicing or dealing with demanding customers, plus the opportunity to help grow and scale this new school.

  • Target Rate: $125,000-150,000 based on experience and licensure
  • Schedule: Cohorts will likely run 8 weeks at a time, 5 days a week, 8am-3:30pm. Outside these hours you’ll handle lesson planning, lab prep, safe work spaces, and school-related events. We plan to begin our 8-week HVAC cohorts in Q1 2027; if you come on board before then, you’ll help with curriculum development and can join the 2-week trade trial programs in Fall 2026.
  • Role Type: Full-time or Part-Time, in-person. Strong preference for full-time, but flexible for the right candidate who continues working in the field.
  • Location: Stamford Town Center, Stamford, CT.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
