Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring product quality, process compliance, and continuous improvement throughout manufacturing operations. This position provides technical leadership by partnering with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations, and customers to improve product quality, reduce variation, eliminate waste, and ensure compliance with AS9100, customer, and regulatory requirements. The Quality Engineer leads root cause investigations, corrective and preventive actions, process improvements, and quality system initiatives while serving as the primary quality representative for assigned value streams.

Position Duties

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide daily quality engineering support for assigned manufacturing value streams.
  • Lead investigations of internal and external nonconformances using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, RCCA, 5 Why, Fishbone, etc.).
  • Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities and disposition of nonconforming material.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Planning, and Supply Chain to resolve quality issues and improve process performance.
  • Develop and maintain Process Control Plans, Inspection Plans, and quality documentation.
  • Support First Article Inspection (AS9102) activities and product validation.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements to ensure manufacturing compliance.
  • Participate in Engineering Change Order (ECO) reviews and implementation.
  • Perform statistical analysis using SPC, Process Capability, MSA, and other quality tools.
  • Develop and monitor quality metrics, dashboards, KPIs, and trend analysis.
  • Monitor scrap, rework, customer returns, escapes, and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), and drive improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct process audits, product audits, and layered process audits.
  • Support internal, customer, regulatory, and third-party audits, including AS9100, FAA, DCMA, NADCAP, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Support supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective actions, source inspections, and supplier performance improvement.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on process validation, qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), process validation, and production readiness activities.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and inspection standards.
  • Train employees on quality requirements, inspection methods, and quality system procedures.
  • Lead and participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with customer requirements, regulatory requirements, and company Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Present quality performance, investigations, and improvement activities to management and customers.
  • Support production in resolving quality concerns while minimizing manufacturing interruptions.
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Quality Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Quality Engineering experience in an AS9100-regulated aerospace or defense manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting precision manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, molding, assembly, or special processes.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100D, AS9102, ISO 9001, and customer-specific quality requirements.
  • Experience leading Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) activities utilizing 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis, or similar problem-solving methodologies.
  • Proficiency with quality engineering tools including SPC, Process Capability (Cp/Cpk), MSA, Gauge R&R, PFMEA, Control Plans, and DOE.
  • Advanced ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) in accordance with AS9102.
  • Experience supporting internal, customer, regulatory, and third-party audits, including FAA, DCMA, NADCAP, and customer audits.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, fabrication, molding, assembly, and inspection methodologies.
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment including CMMs, optical inspection systems, and conventional inspection tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using Minitab, Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and data analysis tools to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience developing quality metrics, dashboards, and performance reports to support operational decision-making.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.


Preferred Qualifications

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), CQA, or equivalent professional certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Certified AS9100 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor.
  • Experience with PLM, ERP, and quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of customer-specific aerospace requirements (Boeing, Collins Aerospace, Bell, Textron, Honeywell, etc.).
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), APQP, and risk management methodologies.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing, advanced inspection technologies, and digital quality initiatives.

Pay range: $90,000 to $120,000 per annum
