Overview
We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Specialist to support project coordination and engineering of submittals for building automation systems (BAS). This role serves as a critical link between sales, engineering, project management, and installation teams — ensuring that BAS projects are designed, documented, and submitted accurately and on schedule. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of HVAC controls with the organizational skill to manage multiple submittals and project timelines simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and prepare engineering submittals for building automation systems, including control drawings, points lists, sequences of operation, panel layouts, and bills of material
- Review project specifications, mechanical drawings, and contract documents to ensure BAS designs meet engineering and code requirements
- Coordinate with project managers, sales engineers, and field technicians to gather project scope, schedules, and equipment requirements
- Translate mechanical and electrical drawings into accurate controls system designs and network architecture
- Generate and maintain project documentation, including submittal packages, as-built drawings, and O&M manuals
- Track submittal status, manage revisions, and respond to engineer/architect comments (RFIs) in a timely manner
- Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers to select appropriate hardware (controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, etc.) for each application
- Support project handoff from estimating/sales to engineering and from engineering to field installation teams
- Maintain organized project files and ensure documentation complies with company standards and industry codes (ASHRAE, NEC, local AHJ requirements)
- Participate in project coordination meetings and provide technical input on system design, scheduling, and constructability
- Assist with troubleshooting and providing technical support during installation, commissioning, and startup as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve submittal templates, workflows, and engineering standards
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree or technical certification in Building Automation, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field — or equivalent hands-on experience

- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and architectural drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or similar drafting/markup software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across internal teams and external contractors
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project)
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering
- Experience with control system programming or graphics development
