Senior Project Accountant | Rockville, MD | $95K–$105K Bonus
A growing commercial services organization is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join its corporate accounting team in Rockville, MD. This is a highly visible opportunity supporting large-scale installation and project-based operations within a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
This role will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Leadership teams to oversee project financials, maintain Work in Process (WIP) schedules, support budgeting initiatives, and ensure accurate revenue recognition throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have strong project accounting experience within construction, HVAC, mechanical services, fire/life safety, or other project-driven industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and reconcile WIP schedules including project costs, billings, and revenue recognition
- Support budgeting and forecasting for installation and operational projects
- Analyze project financial performance including budget-to-actual reporting
- Prepare monthly project financial reports and supporting schedules
- Partner closely with Project Managers regarding profitability, billing accuracy, and cost tracking
- Support month-end and year-end close activities
- Review contracts and change orders for proper accounting treatment
- Prepare AIA billings where applicable
- Assist with audits and process improvement initiatives
- Support operational standardization across multiple entities and locations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5 years of project accounting or construction accounting experience
- Strong experience with WIP schedules and project financial reporting
- Advanced Excel skills required (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, financial analysis)
- Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
