Summary:
The Produce Manager oversees all operations of the Produce Department, ensuring exceptional product quality, strong merchandising standards, and outstanding customer service. This role is responsible for ordering, inventory control, staff supervision, food safety compliance, and delivering an appealing, profitable produce department aligned with Stop & Shop standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Department Operations
- Manage daily operations of the Produce Department, ensuring compliance with Stop & Shop policies and grocery retail standards.
- Monitor freshness, rotation, and quality of all produce items using FIFO standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor and backroom.
Inventory & Merchandising
- Forecast, order, and maintain appropriate inventory levels to minimize shrink and maximize sales.
- Execute weekly ads, planograms, and merchandising strategies to drive traffic and increase department profitability.
- Set up attractive, well-stocked displays that meet seasonal, promotional, and corporate guidelines.
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance to customers regarding product selection, freshness, and preparation.
- Resolve customer concerns efficiently and professionally.
Team Leadership
- Train, schedule, and supervise department associates.
- Ensure team adherence to safety, sanitation, and food-handling procedures.
- Foster a positive work environment that supports teamwork and productivity.
Compliance & Safety
- Enforce all company, state, and federal food safety regulations.
- Conduct regular temperature checks, sanitation routines, and quality audits.
Financial Accountability
- Track department sales, labor costs, shrink, and other key performance indicators.
- Implement strategies to achieve sales goals and increase profitability.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in produce or grocery retail required; department leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of produce varieties, quality standards, and food safety practices.
- Strong communication, customer service, and team-management skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Strong organizational, merchandising, and problem-solving abilities.
