The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is seeking a Compliance Officer to help protect Tribal employment rights, ensure fair hiring practices, and support safe, compliant job sites across Tribal projects.

What You’ll Do Day-to-Day
No two days look exactly the same. In this role, you will:
- Conduct on-site visits to construction projects to observe hiring practices, monitor compliance, and document findings
- Track contractor adherence to TERO requirements, safety standards, and approved compliance plans
- Recruit, refer, and follow up with candidates through the Individual Hiring Hall to support Tribal employment opportunities
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, including hiring activity, layoffs, terminations, and compliance documentation
- Conduct interviews related to complaints or compliance concerns and ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping
- Partner with contractors, supervisors, and internal teams to clarify expectations and address compliance gaps
- Assist with preparation of reports, case documentation, and court-related materials as needed
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement, and recommend practical solutions
This is a hands-on role that blends fieldwork, documentation, and problem-solving.

What You Bring
- Associate’s degree in a legal field or high school diploma with at least one (1) year of experience in compliance, safety, or a legal environment
- Basic understanding of compliance, employment law, or safety standards
- Ability to learn and apply Tribal, federal, and EEOC-related requirements
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
Certifications (required or obtained after hire):
- OSHA 10 (required after hire)
- OSHA 30 (preferred or willingness to obtain)
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience working with Tribal governments, Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO) programs, or Native American communities is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Tribal sovereignty, Tribal employment rights, and Indigenous workforce development practices
- Familiarity with applying or supporting compliance with TERO or similar Indigenous employment frameworks
Working Conditions & Requirements
- Combination of office work and on-site construction visits
- Ability to sit, stand, and move between locations throughout the workday
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as needed
- Occasional evening or weekend work as required
- Must pass a background check and drug screening
- Must maintain reliable transportation and insurability
