Mashpee Public Schools is seeking a Literacy Coach (PreK – Grade 6) to provide exceptional educational leadership in literacy curriculum and instruction. Operating under the Unit A Contract (184 days) and reporting directly to the Assistant Superintendent in collaboration with Elementary Principals, the Literacy Coach will serve as a vital instructional leader dedicated to helping all students achieve their fullest potential in reading and writing. This pivotal role focuses on collaborating with classroom teachers to design instructional maps, guiding data-driven decision-making, and modeling evidence-based best practices. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of facilitating professional development and integrating technology to drive measurable shifts in literacy instruction.
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent, in collaboration with Elementary Principals
Terms of Employment: Unit A Contract (184 days)
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Maintains a valid and current Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teacher certification in the areas of Reading-All Levels and/or Elementary 1-6 and/or Early Childhood PK-2.
- Working knowledge of local and state reading assessment instruments and related curriculum.
- Demonstrates technological proficiency and ability to integrate technology into instruction.
- Ability to interpret, implement, model, and disseminate research-based best practices in literacy instruction.
- Extensive knowledge of the Massachusetts English Language Arts Curriculum Frameworks and best practices for pacing and implementation.
- Demonstrated success in designing and delivering impactful professional learning for adult educators
- Proven ability to collect and analyze student performance data, using those insights to make recommendations for instructional shifts and curriculum development
- Experience collaborating with classroom teachers to create literacy curriculum maps to guide and pace instruction.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, school-level involvement and/or system wide professional activities, and the interview process.
Responsibilities:
- Assists and meets regularly with the principals, and as needed with the Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Special Education, the Director of English Language Development and the assistant principals, regarding all matters related to students and their literacy success in school.
- Promotes and facilitates research-based best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment that are aligned with professional and state standards.
- Meets regularly and coordinates professional development needs with building and district administration: in-service, teacher study groups, and after-school workshops, as requested.
- Assists with the planning and facilitation of meetings with reading teachers, classroom teachers, ESL teachers, and special education teachers.
- Assists with the planning and facilitation of grade-level assessment data and subsequently plans appropriate responses.
- Conducts embedded professional development during the school day to demonstrate and support effective instructional practices including conducting demonstration lessons, observing lessons, supporting planning, and providing mentoring to classroom teachers and specialists.
- Works collaboratively with building-based support services to coordinate and maintain a responsive Multi-Tiered System of Support.
- Analyzes, reports, and presents student achievement data in conjunction with building and district administration to drive instructional responses and curriculum recommendations across core subjects
- Collaborates with building and district administration regarding the purchase of curriculum materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or their designee.
