What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Risk Officer position at Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation?
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the incumbent is responsible for all aspects of risk management for MPTN and its enterprises, including employees, clients, reputation, assets and interests of stakeholders, corporate governance, information security, regulatory compliance, insurance and operational risk. The incumbent will partner closely with Tribal Council, Legal, Finance, and Tribal Government in management of all MPTN enterprises. MA degree in Business or Actuarial Science, Finance, or Risk Management is required, or an educational equivalent. A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in related fields, combined with exposure to a broad range of business and technical issues. Sets and maintains a culture of integrity and timeliness in the management of risk. Experience in large, complex, and culturally diverse organizations as well as governmental entities is desired.

• Must adhere to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe's Policies and Procedures.
• Responsible for the overall Risk Management program including identification, assessment, analysis and mitigation of the risk that could impact MPTN.
• Designs, develops, and deploys data analysis tools and reports that help to determine actions that mitigate risk for the enterprises.
• Develops risk management tools, practices, and policy recommendations, to analyze, and manage the overall exposure to MPTN and its enterprises.
• Develop organizational standards of Key Risk Indicators (KRI); Key Performance Indicators (KPI); Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) and risk allocation models.
• Leads the final Risk Management decision on all claims and oversees the Claims Management function.
• Oversees the safety function of MPTN, through leading the Safety Committee.
• Primary point of contact for managing the insurance broker relationship on behalf of MPTN, providing oversight to the Insurance Program for MPTN and its existing and prospective enterprises, including but not limited to Property, Casualty and Management Liability lines, recommending policy enhancements.
• Manages the third-party vendor relationships in the areas of Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Health.
• Reviews and provides guidance on contracts with MPTN’s enterprises, assessing insurance provisions and advising on coverage and limits that best protect the enterprises.
• Provides timely reports to the CFO, Tribal Council as appropriate, and other stakeholders, on findings and recommended actions.
• Directs daily activities of the Risk Management department, including supervision, training and development, and performance management.
• Works with Legal to mitigate claims in litigation providing necessary resources (incident and claim reports and photos) to minimize expenses as they relate to the litigation.
• Strategic allocation of resources necessary to achieve departmental and business goals.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
