Technical Environment
- Primary: MicroFocus Visual COBOL (v7 preferred), IIS, Visual Studio 2019/2022
- Supporting: Oracle DB, Microsoft SQL Server, custom batch and online programs
- Languages: COBOL, VB.NET, C#.NET
- Tools: Microsoft Team Foundation Server, Git, Visual Studio, SQL Developer
- Infrastructure: Windows Server 2022
- Architecture: Multi-tier web and batch processing systems
Responsibilities
- Analyze complex multi-tier applications that support mission-critical business processes
- Troubleshoot, propose, and implement solutions to functional and technical system issues
- Write, test, and deploy code within structured frameworks
- Partner with business and technology teams to understand requirements and deliver working solutions
- Own production support, including diagnostics, root cause analysis, and defect resolution
- Provide regular status updates to project and technical leadership
Required Skills and Experience
- 10 years of COBOL development experience in enterprise environments
- Hands-on experience with MicroFocus Visual COBOL in IIS-hosted Windows environments
- Experience integrating COBOL systems with Oracle and MS SQL Server databases
- Strong SQL skills for crafting, analyzing, and debugging queries
- Visual Studio debugging and configuration experience
- Production support experience in complex IT environments
- Ability to operate independently and communicate effectively with business users
Preferred Skills
- Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS)
- Microsoft C# or VB.NET
- Familiarity with accessing relational data within COBOL applications
- Experience with SAP data integrations or ERP-related workflows
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor s degree in Information Technology or related field strongly preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience accepted in lieu of degree
Microsoft and MicroFocus certifications are considered a strong advantage
