The Marywood University School of Communication invites applications for a dynamic, energetic, and experienced Assistant Professor of Practice of Theatre. We are seeking a versatile theatre generalist who bridges academic excellence with robust professional practice.

The successful candidate will teach across a modern, multi-medium curriculum, lead student-facing productions from concept to delivery, and provide vital academic and career mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

1. Integrated Teaching (Stage & Screen)

  • Deliver Multi-Medium Instruction: Teach a diverse range of undergraduate courses, including writing, acting, directing, and producing for both stage and screen.
  • Offer Technical Expertise: Lead specialized coursework in technical production, costuming, and other areas tailored to the candidate's professional expertise.
  • Embrace Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster active engagement and synergy between the various disciplines housed within the School of Communication.

2. Student Production Leadership & Creative Direction

  • Direct & Produce: Oversee a robust slate of theatrical productions and film projects, guiding them from initial concept through performance and final delivery.
  • Faculty Advisor to Marywood Players: Serve as the primary advisor for the Marywood Players, direct a variety of stage and screen productions as a core part of the instructional course load.
  • Utilize State-of-the-Art Facilities: Maximize student engagement within our modern facilities, including a television studio/blackbox theatre, digital media spaces, and our performing arts theatre, as well as non-traditional spaces across campus.

3. Mentorship, Advisement & Service

  • Dedicated Academic Advising: Provide comprehensive student academic advisement, helping undergraduates navigate their academic curricula and industry entry points.
  • Professional Mentorship: Guide student-led productions, portfolios, and creative independent projects to prepare students for the professional industry.
  • University & Professional Service: Contribute actively to university governance, departmental growth, and professional service aligned with Marywood’s mission.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A Master’s or Master’s of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Theatre, Film, TV & Digital Production, or a closely related field.
  • Mission Alignment: A commitment to embracing and advancing the University’s and School’s core values, mission, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree: A Doctoral degree in a related area of expertise or commensurate experience.
  • Professional Industry Experience: Significant, documented professional credits in the theatre, film, or television industries.
  • Teaching Excellence: Proven success teaching at the university level, with a track record of effective studio, technical, or classroom instruction.
