Basic Function

This individual is capable of performing independent work in the therapeutic care, treatment and rehabilitation of clients within the program. This position plans and conducts therapeutic activities and counsels therapeutically with clients on an individual and group basis. He/she must demonstrate an advanced understanding of the full continuum of care. In addition, this person must have a broad understanding of mental health diagnosis and treatment modalities along with a working knowledge of how a drug and alcohol treatment program operates. This individual will guide the clients through their recovery journey. This person must be comfortable actively facilitating co-occurring groups and providing co-occurring psychoeducation to applicable clients.

1. Provides therapeutic care, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients to adults and possibly adolescence.

2. Facilitates co-occurring individual and group counseling sessions regarding mental health diagnoses.

3. Works with other social agencies and managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, courts, prisons, and gatekeepers to meet client needs and assist them in utilizing provided resources.

4. Prepares treatment plans, histories, generates all appropriate documentation and reports.

5. Provides assessments and evaluations based on ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria.

6. Assesses treatment plans for clients using the ASI (Addiction Severity Index) and the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).

7. Determines the appropriate level of care according to ASAM criteria.

8. Observes clients throughout treatment to determine the need for continued services, transfer, and discharge.

9. Develops continued services or discharge/transfer plan to ensure access to appropriate levels of care.

10. Continues special training in areas designated by the Supervisor. May also comply with requirements of CADC/LCADC and LSW/LAC.

11. Attends, participates, and when necessary, case consultations, facilitate special events, such as seminars, lectures, retreats, trips, workshops, etc.

12. May be required for weekend duty and/or evening duty as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Knowledge of the basic principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved at drug treatment facilities and mental health agencies is required.

· Knowledge of the bio psychosocial characteristics and manifestations of drug addiction is required.

· Knowledge of individual, adolescent and group behavior and the effective ways of working with people to encourage on-going recovery is required.

· Knowledge of co-occurring disorders is required.

· Must have the ability to work effectively with people, and aid them in identifying their specific needs.

· Must be able to develop a therapeutic relationship with clients while maintaining therapeutic boundaries.

· Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and all agency staff.

· Must have experience with facilitating groups, individual sessions, seminars, meetings and/or specialized therapeutic groups and activities.

Education: Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in human behavioral science such as Social Work, Psychology or related field is strongly preferred. Licensure as a LCADC, LSW, or LAC is required.

Experience: At least two years working as a counselor, preferably in a co-occurring substance abuse/mental health environment.

Sobriety: If recovering, you must have a minimum of two (2) years of continuous sobriety and maintain sobriety throughout employment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $64,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
