MHS Restorative Learning Center Teacher
Maryville High School is seeking an highly qualified teacher to support students with behavioral concerns and/or disengagement from the school environment. This individual will work with counselors, adminsitrators and teachers to develop positive behavior supports school wide.
Qualifications:
- Highly qualified teacher with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups, and systems through the application of positive behavior supports.
- Highly qualified teacher with a minimum of five years successful secondary classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of “at risk” and/or “behaviorally challenged” students was an important responsibility of the position.
- Expert knowledge for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.
- Expert knowledge of techniques to compose Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and behavior contracts.
- Expertise in de-escalation skills.
Job Description:
- Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents.
- Provide direct behavior intervention to students through a pull out and push in model, where the direct supervision ensures a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where student can thrive.
- Train, mentor cultivate specific behavior intervention skillsets with the full-time teaching assistants assigned.
- Build capacity with administrators, individual teachers, individual teaching assistants, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that affect development and implementation of interventions.
- Develop a repertoire of behavior and assessment strategies to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support and restorative practices in their classrooms.
- Provide expert knowledge regarding behavior contracts, trauma informed practices, Behavior Intervention Plans, behavior data collection tools, Restorative Practices, and School-wide Positive Behavioral Support.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the school counselor(s), school psychologist(s) and school administrators to provide consistent and reliable support to students and teachers.

Job Requirements:
- Ability to lift and/or physically manage students of varying sizes and weight
- All applicants must have the ability to perform any physical duties associated with this position (e.g., lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, sitting for long periods of time, walking, seeing, standing for extended periods of time, etc.).
- Special Education Certification and/or willingness to add this certification.
- FSLA Exempt.
