The CTE Summer Communications Student Intern will support the district’s communications department through a variety of creative, digital, and project-based tasks related to internal and external communication efforts. Student interns will gain hands-on experience in public relations, digital media, website management, and community engagement within a public school district setting. Interns will assist with updating district websites, creating social media content, supporting communication plans for district initiatives and rollouts, and contributing to newsletters and other outreach materials. Student interns will also participate in observational and interactive learning opportunities designed to develop career readiness, communication skills, and professional workplace competencies.

 

Desired Qualifications / Skills:

  • Willingness and ability to work as a member of the Communications team to support daily functions and projects.
  • Demonstrated interest in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or digital media.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and clearly in written and verbal forms.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to create engaging and audience-appropriate content for websites, newsletters, and social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Gmail, Calendar) and willingness to learn website and communication platforms.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to take initiative and complete assigned tasks independently and collaboratively.
  • Creative thinker with a growth mindset and willingness to receive feedback.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working with district information and communications.
  • Cultural Responsiveness: Ability to demonstrate respect for all cultural backgrounds and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive work environment.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those a student intern may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Interns will primarily work in an office setting and spend significant time completing computer-based tasks such as website updates, content creation, and digital communication projects. The intern may occasionally attend meetings, district events, or school sites to support communication efforts and gather content for newsletters or social media. The intern may need to sit for extended periods and engage professionally with staff, students, families, and community members in person, by phone, and via email. Noise levels and physical demands are typical of a standard office and school district environment.

Shift Information:

  • 16-18 years old
  • Dates: (Tues-Thurs) June 16 - July 28
  • 4 hours per day, 3 days a week 
  • Hours 8:00am- 12:00pm
  • Reliable transport to Service Center
  • $17.13 minimum wage
