Position Summary:
The main purpose of this position is to ensure a safe facility and maintain the mechanical systems we need to operate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure security and orderliness of the grounds before normal operating hours
- Use electronic ticketing system to complete and update daily work requests
- Track routine maintenance tasks in the facilities log
- Perform basic maintenance tasks to the buildings and grounds including, but not limited to:
- Basic electrical jobs like replacing lightbulbs, outlets, and light switches
- Basic plumbing jobs like unclogging sinks and commodes or troubleshooting faucet and drain issues
- Basic HVAC such as replacing filters, checking thermostats, and monitoring boilers
- Basic appliance maintenance and repair (laundry machines, dishwashers)
- Basic building maintenance including touch-up painting and replacing ceiling tiles
- Some janitorial tasks as needed
- Oversee pest control efforts, including routine inspections, coordinating treatment services, addressing pest issues, maintaining records, and communicating to staff
- Contacting and managing contractors to perform repairs
- Unload and distribute supplies
- Grounds-keeping and landscaping, including
- Weeding
- Trimming hedges
- Cleaning gutters
- Power washing
- Sealing and/or staining wooden structures
- Emptying trash cans
- Overseeing volunteer groups
- Oversee snow and ice removal, including shoveling, spreading salt, and safely operating a small plow to maintain safe access to the facility
- Operate and manage fleet of trucks, including routine maintenance, inspections, repairs, and records
- Other duties as assigned
- Ability to work proactively and independently
- Ability to work under pressure
- Occasional night or weekend availability
- Driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to safely operate large vans and trucks
- Ability to operate heavy machinery
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Knowledge and experience using power tools
- Knowledge and experience with basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC troubleshooting
- Basic computer skills
- Interest in animal welfare
- Standing or walking 8 or more hours per day with frequent bending, stooping and reaching
- Able to see fine details in a variety of situations
- Must have a reasonable degree of agility to move through tightly cramped areas in various situations
- Physically capable of performing all duties, including moderately heavy work like lifting/transporting items of 50 pounds
- Work is performed outdoors, in a warehouse environment, or in an animal care facility setting
- Must be comfortable working independently as the only staff member on duty from 5:30am-7am
- Noise level is usually moderate
- Pest control duties include exposure to, and disposal of, various pests, both in and around the buildings
- Exposure to disinfecting solutions when cleaning with exposure to unpleasant odors and high noise levels when in kennel area
