What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Processor position at MARYLAND PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS LLC?
Job Title: Processor
General Summary of Duties: Separates specimens and encounter forms while organizing specimens in racks. Receives specimens in the computer.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Central Laboratory Manager.
Supervision Exercised: None
Typical Physician Demands: Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking required for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception.
Typical Working Conditions: Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazard substances, and other conditions common to the laboratory/medical practice. Gloves and lab coat must be worn at all times when handling specimens.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities include but not Limited to:
- Pulling specimen bags from the refrigerator.
- Pulling specimens from the individual patient bag with the encounter form.
- Checking for the correct information on the encounter form (following the processing procedure).
- Checking for the correct specimen containers matching the orders on the encounter form.
- Checking the integrity of the specimens (following the processing procedure).
- Documenting any problems on the “Problems when Processing Samples” form.
- Placing specimens in the proper racks for the various lab areas.
- Keeping the encounter forms together by site.
- Putting specimens in the refrigerator for the next day’s work.
- Receiving specimens in the computer.
Performance Requirements: Ability to read and understand information on specimens and encounter forms. Ability to following a written protocol. Ability to work independently and unsupervised. Ability to communicate clearly.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. May be in high school and work with a work permit.

Requirements:MMR and Flu vaccinations required (Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption)
