The State Highway Administration's (SHA) is currently recruiting for a Materials Management Systems Staff (Transportation Engineer II) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications by the closing date. Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to assist the Materials Management Systems (MMS) Team Leader and another Staff Engineer on key business functions providing support to Area Material Engineering Teams and Material Quality Divisions of the Office of Materials Technology (OMT) and external users of the MMS. This is experienced-level professional engineering work specializing in advanced transportation infrastructure systems management.

The position applies engineering theories, principles, and standards to complex materials management systems, transportation projects, and quality assurance programs with substantial independent decision-making authority supporting MDOT SHA transportation projects. Serves as technical project engineer for materials engineering initiatives, prepares technical designs and specifications for MMS enhancements. The position also provides professional direction and guidance to technicians and support staff across multiple engineering disciplines.

This position conducts technical analysis of materials management software systems, identifying solutions to complex operational issues, performs reviews of software code and system functionality, proposing engineering-based improvements and modifications. The position diagnoses and resolves technical problems affecting materials sourcing and quality assurance operations and collaborates with IT professionals and software consultants on MMS enhancements and technical specifications.

Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in professional engineering.

Selective Qualification: Six (6) months of work experience with Information technology (IT) system operations involving solutions design, systems development or system testing or systems management in support of business processes.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).
Notes:

1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non- supervisory experience.

3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.
