The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for the Assistant Superintendent of Bus Maintenance. The Assistant Superintendent of the Bus Maintenance in the Operations Support Department is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily Operation of a Bus Maintenance Division/ Department in the absence of the Superintendent or as needed by higher management. This includes directing the planning and development of methods to effectively utilize/maintain all resources within Bus Maintenance. The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for assigned equipment and support personnel to meet all operating and/or maintenance requirements in accordance with all established MTA practices, policies and procedures. He/she will supervise front line Bus Maintenance supervisors and indirectly supervise electronic technicians, repairmen and other support personnel. The Assistant Superintendent will receive managerial supervision from the Divisional Superintendent and other designated management officials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to staff within the Bus Maintenance Department.
  • Oversee daily review of bus maintenance documentation and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, including reporting incidents or accidents in line with OSHA 300 guidelines.
  • Assist in developing and implementing bus maintenance procedures, conducts the annual review of Special Operating Procedures (SOPs), and manages shop safety oversight.
  • Collaborate closely with the superintendent and supervisors to address operational deficiencies, budget concerns, and labor issues.
  • Assist the Superintendent in evaluating and resolving current and potential issues, manages solution implementation, and prepares correspondence and technical reports.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a mass transit system and/or related operations that required the resolution of operational problems related to scheduled service, equipment failure, equipment maintenance, inclement weather, or other service disruptions. One year of the required experience must have involved supervisory or program management responsibilities.

Notes:
1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.
3. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Experience Requirement of the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses & Certifications

1. Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
