Job Overview

We are seeking an energetic, compassionate, and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP) to provide onsite psychiatric services at a skilled nursing facility in Cambridge, Maryland. The PMH-NP will be responsible for evaluating adult patients, managing psychiatric medications, supporting behavioral health needs, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team to promote comprehensive, patient-centered treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric services onsite one day per week at a skilled nursing facility.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental-health assessments for adult patients.
  • Evaluate new admissions and complete psychiatric follow-up visits.
  • Assess symptoms, treatment response, medication effectiveness, safety concerns, and changes in mental status.
  • Diagnose and treat psychiatric conditions within the scope of licensure and clinical expertise.
  • Prescribe, initiate, adjust, and discontinue psychiatric medications in accordance with applicable clinical standards, HIPAA requirements, DEA regulations, and state and federal laws.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough clinical documentation, including evaluations, progress notes, medication orders, treatment plans, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, nursing staff, therapists, case managers, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide consultation and recommendations regarding behavioral symptoms, mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, sleep disturbance, cognitive changes, and other psychiatric concerns.
  • Educate patients, families, and facility staff regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to psychiatric emergencies, changes in safety risk, and acute behavioral-health concerns.
  • Promote a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Contribute to quality-improvement initiatives and compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through ANCC or equivalent recognized certifying organization.
  • Current, unrestricted Maryland APRN/NP license.
  • Current DEA registration and prescribing authority, as applicable.
  • Experience in psychiatric medication management, skilled nursing, long-term care, outpatient psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, or a related setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric assessment, psychopharmacology, geriatric mental health, cognitive disorders, and behavioral-health treatment.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA, medication safety, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation, scheduling details, and employment classification will be determined based on experience, credentials, and arrangement.
