Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Program Manager and Maryland Registered Peer Supervisor (RPS), the CPRS will:
- Provide mentorship, linkages, navigation, and support to individuals and families engaged with behavioral and public health systems.
- Offer one-on-one, person-centered peer support through outreach, connection, intensive engagement, and follow-ups.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to promote recovery and wellness.
- Develop, implement, and maintain individualized recovery support service plans.
- Promote self-advocacy, recovery capital, and connection to resources.
- Identify and support access to social determinants of health and entitlements.
- Conduct outreach and community engagement activities.
- Accompany participants to appointments using transportation apps as needed (note: CPRS will not transport participants in personal vehicles).
- Re-engage participants and provide follow-up support as needed.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of participant interactions in compliance with organizational policies.
- At least two years of lived and/or professional experience in behavioral health or peer recovery services (preferred)
- Active and verifiable Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential from the Maryland Addiction and Behavioral-Health Professional Certification Board (MABPCB).
- No out-of-state certification will be considered.
- No ethical violations from any credentialing or licensing body.
- Valid government-issued ID.
- Access to personal transportation (mileage reimbursement as applicable).
- A driver's license with verifiable insurance and a 3-year driving record.
- Valid vehicle registration
- Maryland CJIS background check.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Domains as they pertain to CPRS certification
- Ethical Participant Engagement Practices
- Community engagement
- Advocacy, leadership, and community organizing
- Trauma-informed care and cultural attunement
- Multiple recovery pathways and harm reduction
- Mental Health First Aid and crisis response (e.g., 988, overdose response, Good Samaritan Law, and Crisis Response)
- Intentional Peer Support and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Planning)
- Documentation, data entry, and outcome tracking
- Technology Skills:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other virtual platforms
- Data systems and electronic documentation platforms
- Service Expectations:
- Must be available to work a rotating schedule, including weekends.
- Will participate in regular supervision (individual and team-based) with an RPS.
- Must attend in-service trainings, workshops, and professional development activities.
- Must engage in active self-care and wellness planning.
- Be flexible and knowledgeable about Baltimore City-related services
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
